Imani Hakim recently attended the Love Girls Magazine’s Love Awards Ceremony at the Rockin’ Horse Pub & Grill in Rock Island, IL. She made time for free interviews with the love-struck students at the Rock County School in Manitowoc, WI as well as to meet the stars of her hit reality show Love GIRLS.
Imani Hakim’s film debut in the United States (in theaters now) is a comedic role. Imani has been making people laugh with her distinctive style of humor, but this film offers a number of more seriousness as she deals with drug addiction. Imani is also a native of Morocco and will be playing the role of Iman Sheikh, the lead character in the film.
Iman is known primarily for her role on the CW/UPN sitcom Everyone Hates Chris, which earned her a Critics Choice award and Critics’ Choice Movie Award nomination. Iman also received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Gabrielle Douglas on the Lifetime Original Movie The Gabby Douglas Story, which also earned a Critics’ Choice Movie Award nomination. She is also known for her appearances on the television shows Entourage and The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
It wasn’t easy for Imani Hakim as she moved away from her hometown of Ohio to come to LA to pursue her dream, but she didn’t give up. “I really believed in my music,” she said. “I have had trouble coming back home after the success of my record.”
Her Love GIRLS experience was so positive that it was inspiring to her family, friends, and fans. The Love Girl Network has grown tremendously since it was launched in 2004. In fact, the network grew so rapidly that there are now five branches in the United States. There are five more international branches.
Imani Hakim says she loves the challenges of being a part of the network. “This is really the place to be if you want to make it big in this industry.” Imani says she enjoys meeting and talking to new people everyday. “I can meet a person who shares the same goals as me, and who shares my dreams.”
Imani’s dream of working on TV and creating music from her talents has come true. “I’m doing my job as a singer and songwriter from home. This is my dream. I love performing at weddings, at concerts, at fundraisers, at parties, and just by simply having fun with my family and friends. We all look forward to the next time I’ll be able to do my show and make a living out of what I love.”
Imani has met many amazing musicians, actors, and other celebrities. She credits each one with helping her become who she is today. “I’ve met some of my idols and they’re the ones who have helped me achieve my dreams.”
Imani Hakim believes that a lot of us feel different once we get our first break. “It’s a very good feeling knowing that I’m being noticed and that people are seeing the beautiful version of myself. I just feel so beautiful because I’ve been working so hard to get where I am. I’m so grateful for all the opportunities I’ve received because this is what makes me happy.” She’s been writing since she was fifteen years old.
Imani Hakim feels so blessed to have met so many people who care about their careers, who understand her work, and who find her inspirational. “I’m very grateful for this. I feel like I’m doing something that is very important and I would really like to help people make a difference in the world. I’d like to make a difference in the world in a big way, but I can’t do anything without people believing in me.”
