If you enjoy art, or need a little creative inspiration, this is a great book to have on the coffee table. Art Historian Sister Wendy, illustrates key works of art throughout the ages.
An insightful look into a revolutionary achievement in architectural history. Brunelescchi's dome chronicals a puzzle that took over a century to solve; the building of the dome capping the Santa Maria de Fiore Cathedral in Florence, Italy.
From Babs: Subtitled "A Throughly Painless Guide to the Bard", this is a great (and sometimes hilariously irreverent) introduction to Shakespeare and some of his most popular work. While it basically singles out only 6 or 7 plays and only a few of his more famous sonnets, it does touch on each of his writing periods, and basically gives reviews, articles, commentaries and quotes (and even some juicy backstage gossip) from such actors as Orson Wells, Sir Laurence Olivier and Patrick Stewart. Its a very accessable book, and even if you think Shakespeare's plays are about as exciting as watching paint dry and reading about them is even worse, you should really give it a look.
From Diane: Glorious tribute to the often, unsung heroes of filmmaking: Art Directors. It takes you from the silent era to modern day.
