Much
Ado about Nothing
June 5, 2004
March-April. Flurries.
Do
all of Diane’s announcements of Casey’s plays and con
appearances inspire flurries of activity?
Announcement
"Casey will play Benedick in Much Ado about Nothing from May
27-June 6 in Washington, DC."
Initial
Flurries
Carol:
"Clearly, I see another field trip looming in the Duffy family
future.”
Gianna: Being a DC-area resident, yours truly was likewise very
happy.
Holly Kim: I love reading HK’s emails, and she did not let
me down: "Ah, bugger! New York, Casey! Ya gotta remember New
York!”
Later Flurries
Checked out The Shakespeare Theatre and Carter Barron Amphitheatre
websites. For free tickets, not only does one have to stand in line,
but they are available only on the day of the performance. No way.
I’m a planner. I need a ticket well before the play. Hmm,
Friends of Free-for-All - that’s what I’m looking for.
Phoned The Shakespeare Theatre. Dan informed me that a minimum donation
of $125 gets a person four tickets in the reserved section for the
day and time of one’s choice. Done deal. Tickets will be mailed
in May.
Carol said the four Duffys are coming down. Excellent! I met three-fourths
of them last October for Shakespeare in Hollywood and am looking
forward to seeing them. They’ve ordered their own Friends
of Free-for-All tickets.
What three people can I talk into going with me? Eileen, my best
friend, lives out of town so, though we talk on the phone a lot,
we don’t see each other too often. Hey, Eileen, want to see
a play? She’d love to. Then, Loretta Painter emailed the list
for “hints on how to get tickets.” Of course I offered
her one. The fourth ticket went to Mimi, a local friend.
Eileen and Loretta needed hotel rooms for Saturday evening. Me too.
It is very hard for me to get up and go anywhere on a Saturday so,
rather than argue with myself (I have argued with myself on Saturdays,
and it is not a pleasant experience), I booked a room for Friday
and Saturday, to check in after work on Friday. We decided on the
Days Inn on Connecticut Avenue. It’s the nearest hotel to
Carter Barron that is reasonably priced.
So: Eight people attending Much Ado. Tickets ordered. Hotel reservations
made. End of flurries.
May. A Cloud That Dispersed.
An envelope arrived on a mid-May Saturday from The Shakespeare
Theatre. Unsealed. No tickets. Only a letter thanking me for my
donation. Panic time!!!!
Phoned Dan on Monday. No problem, he said, I’ll send you four
more tickets. They arrived a few days later. Sigh of relief. He’ll
be at the play Saturday as a volunteer.
June.
Prelude to the Play - Barometer Plummets
Tuesday,
June 1.
Carol said they are unable to come to DC. They are not the only
ones who are “mucho bummed”. She offered to send me
her tickets, and I gratefully accepted. I may have some takers. |
