I read Casey's message about the importance of not taking art for granted and I couldn't agree more. I just opened a new topic on the EBB forum about making life meaningful because Casey's message got me thinking.
Thanks for the thought train! _________________ Never regret anything that made you smile |

This is from Gianna, Unfortunately the new server at her place of employment wont let her access Casey's site. I sent her the message from my personal e-mail
Thank you very much for the July message, Cindy. I wanted to say thanks right away, but Casey’s message set me to thinking; and I wanted to give myself a couple of days to get my thoughts in the best order.
It’s a pity that in hard economic times, financing for the arts suffers – it’s not only politicians, it’s the human survival mechanism for us all. There are times – hopefully few – when first comes food, clothing, shelter, and employment. Of course, Casey is right too. We need the arts. We’re not only physical beings, we’re intellectual and spiritual beings, and the arts are part of those latter aspects of our beings. Practically speaking, I’m trying to walk a line between economizing and supporting the arts; it isn’t easy, but I am pleased to say that I’m helping support a number of DC-area theatres by buying tickets and making the occasional donation. It not only helps the theatres; it helps my morale too!
Casey, though he doesn’t know it, was the catalyst for my interest in the theatre (books are my first love). After he was Benedick in ‘Much Ado about Nothing’ in DC in June 2004, I started to explore DC-area theatre. Previously I had thought there were a mere handful of theatres – Kennedy Center, Ford’s, the National, the Warner, Arena Stage. I was astonished to learn that the metro DC area is home to over 60 professional theatre companies – and an equal number of community theatres.
I learned that my favorite type of theatre is classical plays (and that generally I dislike musicals!). I began by supporting Shakespeare Theatre Company which, prior to Much Ado about Nothing, I hadn’t even known existed. Then there’s the Folger – starting with that wonderful afternoon, also in June 2004, that Casey arranged there in conjunction with one of the last Slanted Fedora conventions. If Casey talking about and reciting Shakespeare can’t get one interested in the theatre, nobody can! I have found nine theatres that have plays of interest to yours truly. I never see all the plays per season that I want to; but I am so much richer (metaphorically speaking) for what I am able to see; and Casey was the catalyst for that.
Next season I can see Helen Mirren and Margaret Tyzack in Phedre; 3 Shakespeare plays; one Greek tragedy; Laurence Fishburne in Thurgood; Andrew Long (a wonderful DC actor) in I Am My Own Wife; Lost in Yonkers, featuring Tana Hicken and Holly Twyford, two more fine DC actors; adaptations of My Name is Asher Lev and Around the World in 80 Days; Sophisticated Ladies (the music of Duke Ellington); The Rivalry (the Lincoln-Douglas debates); my beloved A Christmas Carol; plus some classical-music concerts. Riches indeed!
You may certainly share this email with Casey if you wish – so long as you add a HUGE THANK YOU from me! |

What a great thing to hear!
We toil all our lives in what we do and to hear that you've made a difference makes it all seem right.
Thanks

| It always is a good feeling to know that doing something you love actually touches peoples lives and moves them. Casey, you have no idea how much you inspire and enrich peoples lives. |

Well said, Cindy, and so true.
